Chinese Government Condemns United States of ‘Contradictory Stances’ Regarding Trade Levy Warning

Donald Trump’s newest threat to enforce an extra 100% tariff on items imported from China has been called a “prime illustration” of American hypocrisy, per the Beijing administration.

A representative of the ministry further commented that Beijing could introduce its own unrevealed “responsive actions” if the US President executes his warning, emphasizing that the country was “unafraid” of a possible trade war.

Last Friday, Donald Trump retaliated at China’s decision to reinforce its policies for foreign shipments of rare earth minerals, charging Beijing of “becoming very hostile” and attempting to hold the global community “captive”.

Additionally, he vowed to pull out of a planned summit with Chinese leader President Xi, which was expected to take place during a meeting in Seoul before the month ends.

His statements on last Friday shook financial markets, with the S&P 500 dropping over two and a half percent, marking its steepest fall since earlier this year.

These statements reignited apprehensions of a trade war between the United States and China.

This past spring, the respective governments had reached an agreement to eliminate significant levies on each other’s products, which had raised the prospect of commerce ceasing between the two nations.

Officials denounced United States controls on electronic components while defending China’s own export controls on key elements as “standard procedures” to ensure state interests and that of the global community.

The official said that for “an extended period”, the America had “broadened the definition” of national security, misused foreign shipment regulations and “implemented” discriminatory practices against the Chinese nation.

“Turning to” import duty warnings is not the proper method to engage with China,” the spokesperson said.

Recently, China announced it was tightening foreign shipment restrictions on key elements and further resources essential to high-technology production.
